Doteveryone announces new work on responsible technology with the support of Omidyar Network
We’re proud to announce a partnership between Doteveryone and Omidyar Network which will expand Doteveryone’s work on responsible technology.
Doteveryone is working to enable technology which is useful, trusted and trustworthy. With support from Omidyar Network, we’ll be able to grow our programme in creating standards and norms for responsible technology, exploring how barriers to ethical digital practice can be overcome and good practices incentivised.
In particular, we’ll be:
- Exploring an operational trust mark system and useful set of responsible technology standards that can scale across the UK and beyond
- Working towards an independent body able to help citizens take better care of their digital selves and encourage greater accountability from government and industry
- Building a coherent movement for responsible technology, accessible to people with little technical expertise and working to achieve global scale
- Launching an innovative digital campaign to help people better understand the implications of using technologies and learn practical ways to make informed choices online
“It’s so exciting to be at the vanguard of recapturing the internet’s promise and transformational power,” said Martha Lane Fox, founder and executive chair of Doteveryone. “Omidyar Network invests in organisations that make significant, widespread impact, and we’re proud to be part of that group.”
“We are very pleased to be supporting Doteveryone in their efforts to help the technology industry realise its full potential,” said Paula Goldman, vice president at Omidyar Network. “Martha Lane Fox and her team have already demonstrated an incredible ability to convene and engage people around this important topic, and we look forward to working with them to advance their work in the UK and beyond.”
Established in 2004 by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and his wife Pam, Omidyar Network is a philanthropic investment firm that invests in and helps scale innovative organizations to catalyze economic and social change.
It joins Google, BT and the BBC as a Doteveryone primary partner. As with all our primary partners, Omidyar Network’s financial support will not influence the framing or the outcomes of our work.
Founded by Martha Lane Fox, and announced in her Dimbleby Lecture in 2015, Doteveryone is a London-based think tank staffed by researchers, designers, technologists, and makers. We explore how technology is changing society, build proofs of concept to show how it could be better for all, and partner with other organisations to provoke and deliver mainstream change.
